Round 7 (Spring): Batavus 2
And we're back! Last time: high school sweethearts Penelope Batavus and Jayne Castaway took up residence in one of the community college's rental bungalows and commenced being very adorable while pursuing their degrees at SMCC (math for the lady and literature for the gent). By the end of the season, Jayne had proposed over a dinner of mac & cheese, and they celebrated with some semi-public nudity, as you do. Springtime finds them a little more than halfway through with their studies and almost ready to move on to the next stage in their lives...

Jayne makes breakfast most mornings, and then the two of them have some time to hang around at home together before classes start.

I stop making them do homework unless they roll a want for it after this. In other news, this is the last time Jayne does homework.

Once Jayne is off to class in his jammies, Penelope walks down the street to SMCC's Student Center to mingle with the other uni kids.

She spots Eustacia sporting a very cat-that-ate-the-canary-ish grin upstairs...

... followed shortly by the appearance of her baby brother, Wim. Ew, Wim! Inappropriate!

The trip is rounded out with some group research with Marco Castaway and a critical appraisal of Velouria's slam poetry stylings (++Film and Literature).

Back at home, Jayne entertains some classmates with kicky bag and falafel, which Penelope happily jumps in on when she gets back from her evening classes.

They are both so darling...

Penelope has Fitness on the brain as she emerges from her winter layers,

while Jayne rolls an endless string of Nature wants.

(A shot of the lovingly cluttered kitchen, too soon left behind when they move out of their college home...)

Penelope finishes her junior year with an A+ and a spot on the Dean's List, and homework-eschewing Jayne hangs in there with a surprisingly decent C+. You can imagine how they choose to celebrate...

Yup.

Penelope still wants to get fit, so one night before senior classes start, they check out the recently completed SMCC Fitness Center, just across the yard from their house.

Jayne decides to work out his espresso arm.

He's soon distracted by the lusty murmurings coming over from Wim and Eustacia, who are really getting into the whole springtime romance thing.

He is aghast. Just aghast. Get a room, you two. (As if he's one to talk!)

Penelope is mad jacked, yo.

She and Wim share some good-natured splash time before being rudely interrupted by dormie Ned, who's all, "Haaaayyyyyy, girlfriends!" No, dude. Learn how to read a room.

To kick off their senior year, Penny manages to convince Jayne to do a little group research with her (and for once, that's not a euphemism!).

(It's been so long since I played this round that I don't totally remember what's going on here... buuut it kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it?)

Penelope briefly reconsiders the man she's chosen to spend her life with/Gives Financial Advice.

Jayne's been itching to test his mettle in a cooking competition; so on one of the last days of the school year, he makes his way over to the SMCC Center for Culinary Arts to give it a shot.

It's an anxiety-inducing process.

These poor kittens. They're so nervous!

And the lady takes it all! Ah well. You'll get 'em next time, Jayne.

Upstairs, Penelope takes in a cooking video.

I never noticed before, but the instructor in it dies in a fire at the end?

Assembled students: "...WTF did we just watch?"

Graduation time! They throw a big party at the house.

There are toasts

and dancing

and OMG, this is the girl who's been inside the cow mascot all this time?! Whaaaaat. Marry her, someone.

^Unsurprising.

A trio of Batavus grins!

Wendy takes it upon herself to whip up something fancy in the kitchen.

And the party rages on both inside and out.

Sweet-faced dormie Xenia does not find anyone to go home with that night. It's all right, dear. I intend to make you playable before the game is up!

After the party, Penelope and Jayne are unceremoniously dumped out of their cozy little college house and have to find some new digs right-quick. Luckily, there's a little apartment just out on the market, in between Sweet Bakery and Virginia Morceau's gallery on Main Street.

The interior space is all newly renovated, but with the cheapest finishes—laminate and linoleum flooring, industrial carpet, and the cheapest cabinets and appliances. There's an office for Penelope's architecture work, though, and the price is just right for these new graduates; so they pack up their stuff and get settled in. (See a mini lot tour here.)

They're right across the street from Main Street Yoga and Milo's bar, with her parents' and Piet's houses just beyond. (I love these neighborhood glimpses!)

Penelope puts her degree to work immediately, starting off at Level 4 of the architecture career as head of a construction company.

Jayne, on the other hand, is still figuring things out.

For now, Penelope pays the bills...

... and Jayne just focuses on looking cute and being sexy.

The Batavus family (minus Piet et al.) come over for a little housewarming dinner.

(Penny's chosen to go with a more cropped 'do for her post-collegiate life. Shorter hair seems to be allthe rage for the ladies of Ste-Margo, too...)

As so often is the case when you get the Batavus clan together, the night ends with a dance party. It's a nice way to break the house in.

After all the guests have gone, on the last night of spring, the couple ACRs themselves to bed, where they autonomously Try for Baby... and succeed.  :|   A bit earlier than I'd planned... but then again, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dying to see what their babies will look like. Bring on the next generation, I guess!

Oh, you two.

Hurray!
Welcome back! I've been having a crappy couple of weeks, and seeing Ste. Margo again cheers me up almost as much as the twins in my own favorite chaotic household.

I see they kept their silhouette noteboard. Your houses always feel so lived in. If I tried to keep my houses that small and intimate I'd have constant routing conflicts.

Looks like Wim and Eustacia are, uh, getting along great. I hope they're being sensible about it! Leave the creation of MOAR Batavi to the ones who've graduated.

You never noticed that about the cooking show before? It was the first thing I ever noticed about the TV shows. Makes you wonder what else you're missing, doesn't it?

If you marry in that cow mascot, she will retain her rude behaviors and her cow outfit. It's possible that changing her NPC code will change that. So consider carefully.

Re: Hurray!
Thanks, Peni! It's good to be back! I'm trying to get my playing/posting on before I get lost in a downloading haze (and I haven't yet tried looking at all the Christmas/Advent/Santa stuff on GOS or LJs...). I still have a whole 'nother round's worth of pictures saved up from October/November.

I'm glad you noticed the silhouette picture. I had them inventory all of the smaller personal effects from their rental house, leaving behind the larger furniture pieces that you might imagine would remain for the next students. So, very observant readers might notice all sorts of items that have come along! As for the smaller houses, I use *a lot* of walk-through blocks...

I never watched any of the TV shows before! All these things I never noticed before I started documenting my game.

The cow, she is pretty, but I do have a lot of Body Shop-created dormies/townies that I want to integrate before I start worrying about game-generated/template-faced sims. Though it could shake things up to have a very rude sim in my game, since I have a tendency to keep mine pretty well-behaved... Working on making things more interesting!
