Week 2+: Sweet

When we last saw the Sweet family, newlyweds Gemma and Charlie were expecting their first child; I didn't know how to take screenshots; and it turns out, I only played their house through Friday. So welcome to the megaweek!

Tabitha, watch out! Maybe she wouldn't be such a bad match for Piet after all...

One thing I love about Gemma is that she always goes around looking like this:  ^u^  She's just so happy! Even pruning the trees while hugely pregnant. But not for long!

She decides to give birth in the pitch black garden at night. Thanks, Gemma. And you can't tell, but it's twins! A boy and a girl! Unexpected! I haven't had many twins in my game (although the more this goes along, the more I'm realizing that when I used to play, I mostly just made families and built houses; so there are a lot of things I haven't actually seen in-game.) Anyway, say hello to Arlo and Ramona Sweet! Their arrival meant that my lovingly decorated Sweet house needed a bit of an overhaul. So:

Aunt Tabby escapes the family zoo in her own little outbuilding, and the twins take over her room, though there's not much money left over to get them anything other than cardboard cribs.

That is, until Gemma finds a magic lamp (another first for me!). She wishes for wealth, and moneybags drop from the sky! The nursery gets some proper cribs, and Tabitha's space gets a little decor:

Not pictured is a small ensuite off the hallway. It's not much, since the town doesn't officially have running water yet, but it's new and freshly wallpapered like the rest of her little place.

At the bakery, we get an appearance by awesome-faced townie, last spotted when she came to review Milo's bar while Jasper was on his date with Wendy. Gemma wins her over, and they get a Best-of-the-Best award. Random hobby-lot townie customers rejoice!

Then one night as highly skilled baker Gemma is working in the kitchen, disaster!
No! WHO PUT THE MONEY RIGHT NEXT TO THE OVEN??!!

For a minute there, it was looking *really* bad. Everything was catching fire (though I did go in myself to move the money...). But Charlie swooped in and saved the day, like a boss. Doesn't he look heroic? So, that's fire #1. Charlie is yet another male family sim, so I like to think this was his protective nature coming through.

Babies!

Oh criminy. This is Ramona. She screamed nonstop for the better part of her babyhood. Bottles, baths, cuddles, diaper changes? Did nothing to soothe her apparently tortured spirit. Her twin brother, on the other hand, slept peacefully through all of her fits.
See? Arlo:
Chillin'.

Ramona:
My life is an unceasing torment from which I can find no relief!

Then they grew up. Arlo wouldn't respond to the candles, so he got SimBlendered and there's no confetti shot for him.

Yeah, I know. Sorry, buddy. Arlo looks okay. He takes strongly after Gemma. But Ramona...

Er, at least she has a good personali-- oh wait. (Somehow, despite her constant tantrums as a baby, both she and Arlo grew up with 10 Nice points. Go figure.) She might need some kind of cleft palate surgery when she gets older... I don't even know.

The twins are left to their own devices as their exhausted family goes to bed.

And they decide to spend a few hours staring at their sleeping parents. Somehow, the fact of there being two of them makes this so much creepier. Like they're plotting something in their secret twin language... They eventually get tucked away, but then guess what.

A fire and a burglary. You guys must really want that journalism career to open up.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, evil laughter. Get on with it.

Ah! One of the bakery's brand new Wayne Thiebaud prints! You cad! Well, thanks to the genie, this is easily replaceable. Still, Piet needs to hurry up and get started on his Captain Hero track. This town needs some law and order.

I just realized the whole family has plaid pajamas. Cute!

Except for Aunt Tabitha. But that's sort of fitting, given that she's the odd one out. Gemma was throwing the cutest little girly punches and making this adorable little "Eh! Eh!" sound while they were doing this. Also: ^u^

And restocking the bakery  ^u^   She's just so happy!

I reinstalled ACR after Piet's unfulfilled teen week, and Gemma got herself pregnant again. Tell us how you really feel, G.

It's a girl! Since we have a Ramona, welcome Beatrice! Gemma's dark hair is really stomping all over Charlie's ginger genes, unsurprisingly. I guess I shouldn't complain, since I have two redheaded mothers (Frida and Virginia) already; but between them, they've only managed to produce a single red-haired child (Penelope) so far...

Regardless, Charlie is soooooo happy. His LTW is to send three children to college, so this at least gives him a fighting chance. Plus, with the genie money, they may be able to donate a fair chunk of the $500,000 needed to start the university.

Ramona, how do you feel about having a new baby sister?

o_o   Note to self: Don't fuck with Ramona.

So now with three little ones in the house and the bakery doing brisk business, the Sweet lot is going to be needing some adjustment before too much longer. But these are happy problems. Life is good for the Sweets! Almost too good, you might say...

Jesus H. Christ. You have got to be kidding me. This time she makes a beeline for Tabitha's cottage. TABITHA, GET UP. YOU ARE BEING ROBBED.

GET UP FASTER.

Well, no shit, lazybones.

Sigh.

P.S.
Did you know toddlers can eat snow? Ramona knew.

I so didn't know toddlers could eat snow! I love that I'm still learning things about this game :)

I know! I had no idea what she was doing when I saw her crawling around the yard, and then I hovered over her queue icon and it said "eating snow"! I also fed the penguin for the first time! Cute!

I love the shed, it's a sweet building. :D

A family of plaid pyjamas is an adorable family. <3 I think I like Arlo the most.

Oh, and next time a kid doesn't respond to the cake, you can turn testing cheats on and then force an error on the kid. The next cake will work fine. :)

Don't you mean "a Sweet building"? I love it, too. I was upset at first about having to change a lot that I liked so much, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Hopefully the next expansion will work out as well...

The plaid family is kind of cute, huh, even with Ramona's... unique features! I'm so curious to see if that works itself out as she gets older!

The toddlerface problems will probably sort themselves out. I hear ugly toddlers make the prettiest adults. She kinda looks like Ramona Quimby; you named her well. But Beatrice should be the older sibling!

You do this well. I get a good sense of how it felt to play them.

Well of course; but at least Ramona is appropriately nuisance-y! I'm so glad you liked it.

Um, I totally read Switching Well way back in middle school! I think it still might be lying around somewhere in my parents' house. It's so funny to think of it, because even almost 20 years later, I've just recently had bits of it pop up in my head-- cars being metal boxes, "divorce" being a dirty word, skim milk being watery... How nice to see you here, of all places!

Oh man, twins, I know what a handful they can be. And don't worry about Ramona's features, in my experience, odd-looking kids usually grow up pretty handsome (and cute ones grow up questionable, so yeah).

On a side note, I love how authentic all your lots look.

I think Ste Margo's local deity punished you for the cardboard cribs in the form of.. Ramona. I know they are just pixel babies, but OMG ! :D

I love their house! It looks nice and cozy and lived-in, inside and out...and I think doing that with the exterior is sometimes hard to accomplish. :)

The cardboard nursery set was from javiera's dreamwidth—the Alice set. You can get it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?whby5s8elj34c)!
