Week 1: The Sweet Household

[Note: My BaCC had a few fits and starts before it got to its current iteration, so the Sweets' first week is slightly inconsistent (one male settler since townified, Batavus family not yet arrived despite being founders!). This was also before I figured out screenshots, so these are just in-game camera pics. But some important things happened, so I thought I'd show you anyway. Also, I forgot the founder is supposed to go first, so after this week, the rota will change.]

Some of the new neighbors showed up on Day 1, and straightaway, they started up a game of kicky bag with the paper girl. These sims are still clinging to their college days a bit.

Meanwhile, Gemma and Charlie decided to cuddle in the grass, where Gemma discusses her interest in bathtubs.

She's really into bathtubs.

Charlie said she'd convinced him of the overwhelming awesomeness of bathtubs.

Which made Gemma really happy!

Charlie, you are so in!

Having reached accord on the topic of bathtubs, they then moved on to other water-containing vessels.

Back at kicky bag, Virginia is just about as thrilled with the fortune teller's arrival as I am.

After a light dinner, Gemma started preparing for their bakery's opening, and Tabitha set herself to the task of making a squillion green potholders. No one in Ste-Margo need ever burn his or her hands on a pot again.

The next morning, Gemma faced her first day as a business owner with a bit of trepidation.

But before she knew it, she'd made her first Simoleon, and as a bonus, Charlie came by as a surprise to show his support.

That gesture made a big impression on Gemma, and she decided to surprise him right back!

And the surprises didn't stop there...

So, they got married a little bit ahead of schedule. Mostly because Gemma wanted to be able to fit into the dress she'd picked out.

On top of the stress of having to plan an impromptu wedding while in her first trimester, after the ceremony, Gemma's guests spent the entire time yelling about old newspapers hidden under the coffee table. It was really starting to wear on her by the end of the day.

And after a restful night in bed with her new husband, she was hungry enough for two breakfasts. There was a lot of news to discuss anyway.

Between eating all of Gemma's bakery do-overs and having sympathy pregnancy symptoms, Tabitha had gone up a few dress sizes. So she decided to take up jump roping.

Part of this old farmhouse's charm lies in its lack of modern conveniences. The bathtub is in the kitchen, and the sink is in the garden.

Some better shots of the house:

(The little backdoor area is my favorite.)

(That record player has been broken for years, so it doesn't even matter that there's no electricity.)

This is one of my favorite houses that I've made. I usually download lots to use as a starting point for renovation, but this time I built it from the ground up. The lack of electricity/primitive plumbing in the challenge opened up the idea of moving into a dilapidated farmhouse setting and steered me away from my general tendencies toward mid-century modern all the time, which has been really fun. I hope you like it, too!

Nice outdoor shots!
I like your outdoor shots, especially the romantic scene in the beginning. The indoor shots, on the other hand, need a little bit of work. You tend to keep the walls down, giving me an impression that the house is built that way. For realism, try toggling the walls up, unless you intentionally want me to see the room next door. I am not saying that all pictures with walls down are bad, just make sure they look intentional. Sometimes, pictures with walls down can look like a cross-section of a house, and that is intentionally made that way. To easily toggle the walls up and down, press the HOME and END buttons. I believe the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN buttons are for changing floor levels. Hope I helped! For more attractive shots with an interesting sense of perspective, try going into free cameraman mode and move the camera around freely with your keys. Your game manual will explain this part in detail better than I can! ;)

Re: Nice outdoor shots!
Hey, thanks for the tips! It took me a while to figure out the camera controls for smaller spaces, but I'm finally getting the hang of it. The wall and floor toggles are really helpful to know!

This house is seriously cute. Have you considered uploading it somewhere? I can't build worth a darn a darn, so I'm always on the lookout for interesting lots.

How did you manage to get the bakery up and running without replenishing the fridge? Are you just oening it for business every other day, or going to rely on grown produce?

BATHTUBS.

Oh, thank you! I've never tried uploading anything before, but I definitely could try if you're interested.

The bakery is open limited hours right now, especially since there's only a handful of random NPCs available to buy anything! But I also have a sort of cheaty marshmallow bush, which is one of those Echo's harvest basket plants that always has food you can harvest. I'm going to justify it by saying... the marshmallow plant represents the huge stores of baking supplies the girls brought with them, knowing they were going to open a bakery. Yes, that's it. :)

This house is decorated beautifully. I love how it feels worn but well-loved.

Taking pictures in small rooms can be tricky, but I'm sure you'll get the knack soon enough.

The house is marvellous, you've decorated it very well and it really suits the reclaimed theme of the neighbourhood.

If I might ask, where did you get the front door with the stained glass window? I love it. :C *grabby hands*

Erg, I would've bet money that it came from MTS, but I just looked through their whole doors & windows section without seeing it there! It's in a set of Justa Door recolors... I'll see if I can figure it out next time I open my game.

Lol, no problem. :D It's no big deal if you can't find it, I just think it would be lovely to have. XD

Yeah, it's one of those things where once you mentioned it, it started to bug me that I didn't know! It's one of my favorite doors-- I have to force myself not to use it in all my lots!

So, to my annoyance, I still haven't been able to figure out where that door came from, not even after I packaged a lot with *just* the door in it! Gibberish file names with unhelpful preview pics. But, I did upload that lot with just the door in it, so if you want, you could just download that! http://www.box.net/shared/9tvz8rc67cc4982eecxb

Hey, did this file work for you? Because during a file sort the other day, I FOUND THE DOOR in Clean Installer. So if somehow it didn't come through in this upload, I have it now!

Yay you found it! Unfortunately, I don't have my game with me, so I can't double check. :c I'll have to have a fresh look when I get home in november. C:

The house is beautiful! And it looks so real, I actually spent the summer holidays, as a kid, in places looking just like that. I can almost smell what it's like for the sims living there (no pun intended on the lack of plumbing :D)

BATHTUBS! There are so many ways to contain water indeed XD

Thank you! It remains one of my favorites, though I have gotten much better about building all of my lots from scratch now.
